Dear friends! I am happy to share this news with you!

    January 24, 2024
    Kyiv, Ukraine.

On January 24, the National Academic Wind Orchestra conducted by Ivan Stetsky during the "Ukrainian Rhapsody" concert in the M.V. Lysenko Column Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will perform my piece - the solemn fanfare "Glory to Ukraine!" for a large brass band!
Information about the event can be found at the link below.
The work was written already during the large-scale invasion of the russian federation.
In October 2022, Mr. Alan Tongret, head of TongretARTS LLC (USA), commissioned me to compose this piece in support of Ukraine and democracy around the world for the anniversary of the start of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. The main condition was that the world premiere and studio audio recording should be performed by the National Academic Wind Orchestra of Ukraine. The general director of the collective, Mr. Oleksandr Pirozhenko, supported this idea. The result of our cooperation will be heard at the concert on January 24.
I sincerely thank the management of the orchestra, the conductor and all the musicians for such a wonderful opportunity - to be among the authors-composers whose music will be heard this evening on the main stage of our National Philharmonic!

Today is the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag!

    June 26, 2023
    Kyiv, Ukraine.

Today is the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag.
I am happy to present to your attention my arrangement of the Crimean Tatar folk song, the unofficial anthem of the Crimean Tatars "Ey, güzel Qırım" ("Beautiful Crimea") for a mixed choir a cappella!
A few years ago, precisely to this date, we completed work on a studio audio recording of this music - an arrangement of the Crimean Tatar folk song, the unofficial anthem of the Crimean Tatars "Ey, güzel Qırım" ("Beautiful Crimea") for a mixed choir a cappella, which I am happy to present to your attention. I wrote this work at the request of Yulia Puchko-Kolesnyk, conductor of the girl's choir of the M.V.Lysenko Kyiv State Music Lyceum, on the occasion of the tragic anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatars. The premiere of the work took place in the presence of the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev, and meeting and communicating with him made a great impression on all of us.
The melody and lyrics of the song "Ey, güzel Qırım" cannot leave anyone indifferent and move to tears. All the eternal longing of the Crimean Tatar people with their tragic fate - being exiles in their native land - was concentrated in them. All of us, both children and adults, all who worked on this project, fell deeply in love with this melody, this language and culture, putting the sincere warmth of our hearts and souls into our work. Because Crimea is Ukraine!
I thank everyone who was involved in this wonderful recording: to the leaders-conductors and choirmasters of the choir - Yulia Puchko-Kolesnyk, Ruben Tolmachev, Vira Shemchuk, Vladyslav Tarakhan; soloists - Ruben Tolmachev, Oleksandra Stetsyuk, Valeriya Husak, Mykyta Tsyganov; to all members of the girls' choir of the M.V.Lysenko Kyiv State Music Lyceum and the chamber choir "Gaudeamus" of the P.I.Tchaikovsky Charitable Foundation for the Development of NMAU.
Huge thanks to our beloved and constant sound engineer Andriy Mokrytskyi for his traditionally impeccable work!
Winds blowing from Alushta, the land where I grew up from childhood, blew in my faceBringing tears to my eyes.I could not live on this earthCouldn't enjoy my youthI missed my homelandAh, beautiful Crimea.Gardens, fruits,Honey and sherbet,I drink and drink your waterAnd I can't get drunk to my heart's content.Children in their homelandshedding tearsOur elderly people, stretching out their hands,PrayingI could not live on this earthCouldn't enjoy my youthI missed my homelandAh, beautiful Crimea.

I invite all friends who live in Amsterdam to attend this concert, and I wish success to my wonderful performers!

    June 10, 2023
    Amsterdam, Holland.

Many thanks to Ms. Thea Derks and Chamber Choir "Amphion" in Amsterdam (Holland) for including my works for mixed choir a cappella in their concert program!
    Link to the event: https://www.kamerkooramphion.nl/

    The flowers and the trees,
    The bronzes, the marbles,
    The golds, the enamels,
    The sea, the fountains,
    The mountains and plains
    Console our pain.

    Eternal nature,
    You seem more beautiful
    To a heart in sorrow.

The Romantics knew better than anyone how to appreciate the blessings of nature. For example, Victor Hugo sang about her healing and comforting effect in the above verses. Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) turned these into a compelling setting for four-part choir a cappella. We will sing this on Saturday 10 June during our spring concert in the Oranjekerk in Amsterdam under the title Nature éternelle.

As you have come to expect from us, we searched for matching songs from all style periods around the same theme. For example, deafening birdsong can be heard in Le chant des Oyseaux by Clément Janequin (1485-1558); a swan in her song of death gives a final sneer at the stupid geese in The Silver Swan by Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625), and Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) praises the grace of a doe in La biche.

The British John Tavener (1944-2013) chose verses by William Blake for his ode to the Lamb of God in The Lamb; his American colleague Morten Lauridsen (1943) was inspired by the perfection of a rose in La rose complète, while insects and sheep breathe life into Edward Elgar's (1857-1934) Evening Scene.

Iryna Aleksiychuk (1967), who fled from Ukraine to Spain last year, made a beautiful setting of verses about the passage of time from her compatriot Lesya Ukrainka in Pisnja (‘Song’), and organist/composer Waldemar Åhlén wrote Sommerpsalm, one of the most popular choral songs from Sweden.

In short, together with conductor Tijmen van Tol we have again devised a varied programme and we hope that you will enjoy the concert as much as we enjoy the rehearsals.

Come hear the commissioned premiere of my "The Song" performed by the talented young singers of YWC!

    May 21, 2023
    Bowes Center, San Francisco, USA.

The fantabulous young singers of the Young Women's Choral Projects of San Francisco (YWCP) Young Women's Chorus and conductor Martin Benvenuto are presenting a not-to-be missed program next Sunday May 21st!
In the folk poetry of Ukraine, the ruta plant is a common folklore symbol of luck and wealth. In my work "The Song" based on the verses of the outstanding Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka, you'll hear it referenced as a symbol of youth. The not-yet-bloomed green ruta blossoms into a yellow flower that turns red for only a short time, on the night of Ivana Kupala, the summer solstice. The red ruta is a symbol of eternal and pure love, so the girl who finds it and picks it will be lovingly blessed.

Join us at San Francisco Conservatory of Music's new Bowes Center, an architectural award-winning music venue with unparalleled views of San Francisco Civic Center landmarks.

    Today is a terrible anniversary...

    May 18, 2023
    Anniversary, Kyiv, Ukraine.

Today is a terrible anniversary. On May 18, Ukraine commemorates more than 200,000 Crimean Tatars, who were forcibly deported from Crimea by the Soviet authorities in 1944. As a result of forced deportation, they lost their home, homeland, relatives, and many lost their lives. Since that time, Russia has not changed anything in its actions and in its policy. It continues to kill, destroy and deport.

In memory of these tragic events and at the request of Yuliya Puchko-Kolesnyk, head of the girls' choir of the Kyiv Lysenko State Music Lyceum, I made an arrangement for a mixed a cappella choir of the unofficial anthem of the Crimean Tatars, the Crimean Tatar folk song "Ey, güzel Qırım ".

I thank everyone who was involved in this wonderful recording: to the leaders-conductors and choirmasters of the choir - Yulia Puchko-Kolesnyk, Ruben Tolmachov, Vira Shemchuk, Vladyslav Tarakhan; soloists - Ruben Tolmachov, Oleksandra Stetsyuk, Valeriya Husak, Mykyta Tsyganov; to all members of the girls' choir of the M.V. Lysenko Kyiv State Music Lyceum and the chamber choir "Gaudeamus" of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Charitable Foundation for the Development of NMAU. Huge thanks to our beloved and constant sound engineer Andriy Mokrytskyi for his traditionally impeccable work.

My Fanfare "Glory to Ukraine" will receive its World Premiere!

    May 11, 2023
    Fairless Hills, USA.

I am pleased to announce that my "Glory to Ukraine" Solemn Fanfare for wind band will be performed by the Pennsbury Community Band on Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. local time! The concert will be conducted by the Pennsbury Community Band's founder - Christopher Bygott.
Dear friends! I present to your attention my new work - Solemn fanfare "Glory to Ukraine!" for wind band. Something about the history of the creation of this work. In October 2022, I was contacted by Mr. Alan Tongret, the head of TongretARTS LLC, an American, who is deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine, after the aggressive attack on it by the terrorist state - russia. He commissioned me to write this piece in support of Ukraine and democracy around the world, on the anniversary of the start of full-scale russian hostilities against Ukraine. The main condition and request of Mr. Alan was that the world premiere of this piece and the studio audio recording be performed by the National Academic Wind Orchestra of Ukraine. We turned to the general director of the collective, Mr. Oleksandr Pirozhenko, and he gladly supported this idea! And here is the result of our painstaking work before you! The musicians of the orchestra performed a real feat to make this recording possible in very difficult conditions. On the day of rehearsal and recording, they were hindered by rocket attacks on Kyiv, air raids and lack of light. But everyone came to the recording!
I am infinitely grateful to all the participants in the process - Mr. Alan Tongret, the general director of the orchestra - Mr. Oleksandr Pirozhenko, a brilliant professional, conductor Oleksiy Bazhenov, the artists of the orchestra, a brilliant sound engineer and my old friend Andrii Mokrytskyi, who always made all my studio recordings at the highest level, and, also, a special huge thanks to my former student and my close friend Dmytro Danov, for the highly professional and masterful work with the samples!
I was inspired to create these solemn fanfare by a video of the prayer of soldiers of the "Azov" battalion before battle. It is what opens my presentation video. The text of the prayer was written in 1919 by Osyp Mashchak, a Ukrainian nationalist and fighter for the independence of Ukraine, written in blood on the wall of the prison cell in which he was imprisoned. I put all my deep desire for our Victory over the Russian invader, murderer and occupier into this music. I hope that this work will go around the world as a sign of the world community's support for our Victory in this struggle! The work is based on two musical themes that are familiar and dear to the heart of every Ukrainian - these are the themes from the National Anthem of Ukraine and from the song "Oy u luzi chervona kalyna".
All wind bands who would like to obtain the score and orchestral voices to perform the piece can apply to purchase them directly from me.
Glory to Ukraine and its Heroes!
We will win, and mordor will disappear from the face of the earth forever!

Special words of thanks to conductor Vladyslav Lysenko and choirmaster Mykhailo Trokhymenko. Dear friends, you were able to find in your interpretation new original possibilities of reading this work, although it was performed by many choral groups and it sounded many times.

I thank the journalist Thea Derks for once again including my music in her program!

    May 05, 2023
    Radio program.

On Sunday, May 5th at 17.00 CET in the program of the Dutch journalist Thea Derks "An Ox on the Roof" two of my choral compositions for mixed choir a cappella will be performed! Here’s the link to this program coming Sunday at 5 pm Central European Time. An Ox on the Roof 50: The Ox in Time of War #14.An introduction to contemporary music in plain language.
Episode fifty of Een os op het dak by Thea Derks , inspired by her book Een os op het dak: modern music after 1900 in a nutshell .
The disturbing reports of Russia's war against Ukraine continue to fly around our ears. Secret information about morale and equipment of the Ukrainian army ended up on the street, we are not going to supply F16s and the beleaguered country gets just enough ammunition not to perish ingloriously, but not enough to win the war. To become discouraged.
Today, therefore, music from Ukraine again, as a tribute to the steadfastness with which the army and the residents who have not yet fled defend their – and our – freedom.
We start with Lacrimosa by Oleksandr Shchetynskyi [photo], who still lives and works in Kyiv. He composed this piece for the special instrumentation of violin, oboe, horn, two trombones and organ during the first weeks of the Russian aggression, when the city was constantly bombarded by Russian artillery.
Shchetynskyi wrote his lamentation on behalf of the Organ Hall of Lviv, where the piece was premiered on April 17, 2022, performed by musicians of the Luhansk Regional Philharmonic Orchestra. After the annexation of Luhansk, they sought refuge in Lviv, much more to the west.
In the previous episode you already heard music by Evhen Stankovych, who, like Shchetynsky, lives in Kyiv. He is currently working on a grand oratorio about the war. He himself does not speak English, so we communicate with his daughter Radmila. "Can you imagine trying to live a normal life when every day could be our last?" she asks rhetorically. Today a recording of his Second Violin Concerto.
The same broadcast also featured the fanfare Glory to Ukraine composed by Iryna Aleksiychuk for the first 'anniversary' of the war. The recording was made while the musicians were under Russian fire. To conclude this program again music by Aleksiychuk and two of her choral songs. Chamber choir Amphion will sing this on Saturday 10 June in the Oranjekerk in Amsterdam.
The 1st edition of Een os op het dak is sold out, but via Boekenbestellen.nl you will receive a copy of the 2nd edition

Video recording from the premiere performance of my composition "Trisagion" for treble choir a cappella and solo violin on canonical texts.

    April 11, 2023
    Cincinnati, USA.

Dear friends!Today I finally received a video recording from the premiere performance of my composition "Trisagion" for treble choir a cappella and solo violin on canonical texts! Now I can share it with you))
A huge thank you to my performers - the USA National High School Girls' Honor Choir and conductor Pearl Shangkuan, as well as the All-American Choral Conductors Association (ACDA) who commissioned me to compose this music!

A choir of 300 people is really impressive performance!

The premiere of the work took place during the All-American Conference of the Association of Choral Conductors on February 25, 2023 in the city of Cincinnati (Ohio).

The piece "Trisagion" is my first piece, which was created after the beginning of russia's brutal, invasive and murderous war against Ukraine. Therefore, my appeal to the canonical text of one of the most important prayers of Christianity is not accidental. The main idea of the work is an appeal to God to save and protect the people of Ukraine from the Russian occupier, from war and death.

The main Christian prayer of the Holy Trinity, which is also called the Angelic Song of the Holy Trinity, is the penitential and at the same time laudatory singing of the Holy Trinity. It got its name from the threefold mention in the text of the prayer of the "saint". This prayer is very old, it was used in worship since the days of early Christianity. There are several versions of the origin of the Holy Trinity prayer. According to the first and most common among Orthodox Christians, it was heard during angelic singing. It happened in the V century in Constantinople. Then a strong, devastating earthquake broke out in the city, causing panic among the locals. The frightened citizens took to the streets of Constantinople and offered prayers to God, asking them to forgive their sins and have mercy. At that time, among the people was a boy who suddenly, in front of everyone, was lifted into the air by an invisible force and after a while dropped back. He told the stunned people that he heard angelic singing in the air and gave them the text of their prayer. The townspeople immediately began to pray, adding the word "have mercy on us" at the end, and the earthquake stopped. In the same year, the Christian prayer of the Holy Trinity was introduced into worship, and today it can be heard in every Orthodox church.

Don't miss Thea Derks program on Radio Holland with my solemn fanfare "Glory to Ukraine"!

    April 02, 2023
    An introduction to contemporary music.

My solemn fanfare "Glory to Ukraine" will be heard today on the radio program of the Dutch presenter Thea Derks at 17.00 Dutch time and at 18.00 Ukrainian time!An Ox on the Roof 49: The Ox in Time of War #13.
Episode forty-nine of Een os op het dak by Thea Derks , inspired by her book Een os op het dak: modern music after 19:00 in a nutshell .
This is already the 13th episode of 'De Os in the times of war'. Unfortunately, the end of the battle is anything but in sight, so today again music from and about Ukraine.
Episode 47 featured work by Iryna Aleksiychuk, who fled her homeland not long after the war broke out and found a safe haven in Bilbao. She is very concerned about her homeland and also warns the rest of Europe against the aggression of Russia, which she believes will push further west if Ukraine is defeated.
On the occasion of the first anniversary of the war, Aleksiychuk was commissioned by an American artist to compose a fanfare, which she appropriately named Glory to Ukraine . She incorporated Ukrainian themes, including from the national anthem. The musicians of the National Academic Wind Orchestra of Ukraine recorded the piece in a studio in Kiyv while being bombarded by Russian missiles.
Shocked by the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Dutch pianist and composer Heleen Verleur was looking for a way to support the population. She made nine variations for piano solo on the Ukrainian song Plyve Kacha (The Duckling Swims). The text consists of a conversation between a mother whose son is sent to the front. The composition can be downloaded for free from publisher Donemus.
The Ukrainian composer Evhen Stankovych (Svaliava, 1942) studied with Boris Lyatoshinsky and Miroslav Skoryk, among others, whose music has been heard in previous episodes. In 1975 he composed his Second Symphony, subtitled 'The heroic' – the music has a martial character.
Roman Turovsky (Kiyv, 1961) has been living and working in New York for 44 years, but still feels strongly connected to his homeland: 'I am always inspired by Ukrainian music, the most melancholy in the world. That is not without reason, because the war against Ukraine has been going on and on for about 400 years. The current atrocities directly affect my family and friends and I am currently raising funds for both military and humanitarian causes.”
In the program:1. Iryna Aleksiychuk. Glory to Ukraine.National Academic Wind Orchestra of Ukraine conducted by Oleksii Bazhenov.2. Plyve Kacha (Ukrainian folk song).Mariana Sadovska, vocals & harmonium.3. Helen Verleur. Plyve Kacha, theme and variations.Helen Verleur, piano.4. Evhen Stankovych. Symphony No. 2 'Heroic'.Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine conducted by Oksana Lyniv.5.Roman Turovsky. A selection from De Temporum I.Christopher Wilke, lute.

Dear friends, you have really done a huge and very difficult job. "Glory to Ukraine!", solemn fanfare for a wind band, World Premiere

    February 08, 2023
    World Premiere.

Today is a significant and exciting day for me! Today I present to your attention my new work - Solemn fanfare "Glory to Ukraine!" for wind band!
We will win, and mordor will disappear from the face of the earth forever!Glory to Ukraine and its Heroes!
Performed by: National Academic Wind Orchestra of Ukraine. The general director - Oleksandr Pirozhenko. Conductor - Oleksiy Bazhenov. Sound engineer of the studio recording - Andrii Mokrytskyi. Sampling - Dmytro Danov. Video of the prayer of the soldiers of the Azov regiment

    October 01, 2022
    Palacio Euskalduna, Bilbao, Spain.

I am happy that I was lucky enough to celebrate my professional holiday - International Music Day - this year on a real scale! Fragment from the concert at this link!I am happy that I was lucky enough to celebrate my professional holiday - International Music Day - this year on a real scale, taking part in the performance of the famous work of the composer Karl Orff "Carmina Burana" in a version for brass band, choir, soloists-vocalists and two pianos. The concert took place on the stage of the largest concert hall in the city of Bilbao - Palacio Euscalduna de Bilbao. It was incredible to feel a part of this grand event together with wonderful groups and musicians - the Municipal Brass Orchestra of Bilbao under the direction of the conductor José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana, the Orfeón Pamplonés choir under the direction of Igor Ijurra and excellent soloists - Olatz Saitua (Soprano), Carlos Mena ( Contratenor), Toni Marsol (Barítono).
The hall was full. And after the concert, when people started approaching me to congratulate me on a successful concert, I realized what a huge number of new friends I had made during my short stay in the Basque Country! I feel their support and warm attitude towards me every minute. I would like to express my immense gratitude to the conductor José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana, Ms. Erkuden Garmendia, and the entire team of the Banda Municipal de música de Bilbao orchestra for the opportunity to collaborate with this glorious team. I would also like to sincerely thank Ms. Onintze Amezaga Bilbao and Ms. Mari Luz Palacio Sagarduy for their support. Huge thanks to the entire team of the Red Cross organization of Sopelana (Cruz Roja Uribe Kosta - Uribe Kostako Gurutze Gorria) - manager Sara Mielgo, who is always there and helps to solve any of my problems, and, of course, special words of thanks to the head of Cruz Roja Uribe Kosta, Mr. Iñaki Arnedo, thanks to whose personal help and support I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Municipal Brass Orchestra of Bilbao.
Thank you all, dear friends! In my person, you provide support to Ukraine and all Ukrainians who, due to Russia's war against Ukraine, are currently on the territory of Spain.

"Unto the Lord with my Voice I Cried" for women’s choir a cappella

    April 30, 2022
    Montréal, Canada.

I met the choral conductor Jessica Pierpont in 2022, after the terrorist state of russia launched a full-scale war against my country, Ukraine. In this difficult time for all Ukrainians, many musicians from other countries wanted to express their support for us by wanting to perform the music of Ukrainian composers. Jessica was among them. Under her direction, my piece for the women's choir "My Voice to the Lord" was brilliantly performed. Jessica, Sofia Yatsyuk, Marian Guay, and the McGill Doctoral Recital Choir's performance was a rare combination of professional skill and depth of feeling and emotion, which always touches the listeners to the depths of their souls! Jessica is not only a wonderful musician, but also an amazing person, always ready to help. I wish her great creative success and will always be glad to continue our creative collaboration!
